FOODIE Quickie: Hummus Two Ways
Hey everyone! Having a good morning so far? I think I'm still waking up... thank goodness for Starbucks. Yesterday was a long day at the Browns game, but it was worth it because they won! Anyway, a couple days ago Mark and I had a party to go to and we wanted to bring an appetizer that would use up ingredients we already had on hand. Since we had a bag of pita bread in the fridge, I decided we would make those into pita chips and whip up some homemade hummus. I found a recipe using my Epicurious iPhone app for "Smoky Chipotle Hummus" and decided to use a portion of that recipe as my base hummus recipe and make two different types of batches: one Smoky Chipotle batch and one Roasted Garlic and Red Pepper batch.
You won't believe how easy it is to make your own hummus and you'll find that it tastes fresher and it's cheaper... especially when you make your own pita chips.
To make your own pita chips... just preheat your oven to 350 degrees, cut up whole pieces of pita bread into triangles, arrange the pita bread pieces into a single layer on a cookie sheet, drizzle some extra virgin olive oil onto the pita bread pieces and pop them into the oven for about 10 minutes, or until they begin to turn a light golden brown. Remove them from the oven and sprinkle on some sea salt. They're easy, they taste better than the bagged pita chips, and they're WAY cheaper.
So enjoy making your own hummus and hopefully this will be something easy you can bring to your next party!

If everyone knew how easy hummus is, no one would ever pay big bucks for those teeny containers in the store, right?
